Today was our second day of driving on Oahu. Traffic was lighter in Honolulu but worse near Kaneohe. I saw a message board yesterday that said "Drive with Aloha". I'd have to say most everyone is considerate.
First up today was a trip to the post office (which was closed--so my aunt's birthday card will be even later) and then the Iolani Palace. This was worth the ticket cost mostly because of our tour guide. She really knew her Hawaiian history and it turns out her (great) uncle was one of the men who tried to overthrow the provisional government in 1893.

We headed back to Pearl Harbor next to visit the Pacific Air Museum. This featured aircraft primarily from WWII, but also included jets used during Korea and Vietnam.
P-51 Mustang
Japanese Zero
Mig-15, from Korean War
Bullet holes from Japanese strafing
We took I- H3 to the other side of the island to see some things we may have missed yesterday. We found a free place called Ho'omaluhia Botanical Gardens.
Plant display
Plant (I'm not a botanist)
Palms and fog on the mountaintop
We wound up putting 204 miles on the rental car. Not bad for an island that's 44 by 30 miles in size.
Dinner was spring rolls and coconut tapioca at a shopping arcade across from the hotel called King's Village. The bus driver told us earlier that it would be torn down for a new hotel. I didn't think much of it when he said it then, but it will be a shame when it's gone.
Well, it will be off to Kauai tomorrow morning.
Did you know: Oahu is the 20th largest island in the US, at 597 sq mi.
